If you’ve ever seen what a deer can do to a truck when the two encounter each other on the road at night you will understand why I rode this evening with my fingers on the brake levers ready to stop at a moments notice. Admittedly my bike travels much slower than a truck but then neither am I cocooned in a protective steel cage so the damage done by colliding with a deer could still be considerable. I had delayed my Sunday ride until evening to avoid the heat of the day but I underestimated the numbers of deer that wander the streets of Country Club and Fulton after dark.
