COVID-19 vs CTC 2021

I was in Corpus Christi Saturday, for work purposes, but thought I would take the bike with me and ride around Downtown again after work.
Social distancing and mask wearing appears to NOT be a thing in town but that wasn’t a problem for me because I didn’t stop near groups of people and what they do is up to them!

Saturday evening ride

And so the cycle begins again

And so the cycle begins again

Here we come – Conquer the Coast 2021!

No sooner are the 66 miles of Virtual Conquer the Coast under my belt and in my odometer than the next training miles commence. Today I took my bike to work and set off in the evening for 15 miles around Downtown Corpus Christi. I also indulged my other hobby – bridges – by checking out the South side of the new Harbor Bridge project.

What it has all been about.

What it has all been about.

Virtually nothing has been unaffected by COVID-19

I’ve been trying to ride at least 50 miles a week in preparation for the 2020 Conquer the Coast bicycle ride.
Unfortunately, as with most things in life, the Conquer the Coast event has been cancelled due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
Nevertheless a “Virtual” alternative has been mooted. Anyone can enter and complete the course of their choice to qualify for “Conquer the Coast 2020”
Of course I registered to complete the course even although I could not ride over the Harbor Bridge (which is my main attraction to the event).

Week beginning September 6th, 2020

Looking towards Fulton Beach Road, TX

Now heading into the week ending September 12th, the scheduled date for Conquer the Coast 2020, had it not been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Dang but I’m not having much luck entering this event!
This is the 4th year I’ve attempted to register for it and I’ve only succeeded in riding it once!
… on the other hand …

Week beginning August 30th, 2020

Fulton Harbor, TX

Back on track with a good few miles this week following my usual routes through Rockport Country Club and Fulton TX. The miles quickly mount up!

2 Preserved Ex City of Edinburgh busses

Much reduced mileage this week due to weather but at least I clocked a few miles.
Confined to the house for several evenings I took to the Internet and found this photo of 2 old friends. Yes, in my youth, I was a nerdy “bus spotter” and remember this pair well.

Cycle Training 2020 #34

Week beginning August 16th, 2020

Memorial Park, Rockport, TX

Managed a few more miles this week but still falling short of my 50 mile goal. The temperature has been in the 90F range with SSE winds around 10 to 15 mph neither of which promotes enthusiasm for cycling.
Also there was the yard work that had to be done!
On the plus side memorial Park has been opened to the public again and so some mileage can be achieved in the relative shade of the park.

Week beginning August 2nd, 2020

Newly painted ceiling and new light fitting.

No time for cycling this week for one reason or another.
I clocked a couple of turns around our sub-division after dusk on Saturday just to be able to say I had done something.
