Lightweight Sunday

Playlist: cycled without sound!

Had a lazy Sunday today and suddenly it’s evening. My wife and daughter were expecting deliveries from USPS and so I volunteered to cycle the quarter mile to the mailbox and collect anything contained therein. Of course I cycled a little further than necessary to achieve this object.
Here are a few photographs from my extended mailbox trip:

Playlist: (Movie) Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Remember the GCN video (“Friday Off” June 19th) which persuaded me that it is not necessary to train every day – today was that day.
No cycling, no yard work, and not even a stroll to the mailbox. Activity today consisted of logging into the morning church service followed by laundry and towel folding whilst watching the Will Ferrell movie listed above, and then sifting through my collection of digital photographs in search of blogging inspiration.

I’m not a big fan of Will Ferrell but this movie was brought to my attention by my friend David , who lives in Scotland, as it features a few scenes shot in Edinburgh. Even better – it also features some scenes filmed in Glasgow that are passed off as being in Edinburgh. Long live the East / West rivalry of Scotland’s two largest cities. The movie was indeed quite enjoyable.

Playlist: These Are the Days of Our Lives – Queen

In Corpus Christi at the office again today and Patty drove through in the evening to remind me that we have a life outside of work.
I guess we got to see some Sahara dust in the atmosphere.

We arrived back in Rockport kind of late and Emily asked if I could check the mailbox as she was expecting a parcel. The mailbox is a quarter mile from the house so I cycled there, clocking three miles towards my weekly goal, and picked up the package for her. That rounded off my weeks mileage to 40 so I only need another 10 miles for this week.

Thursday Evening

Thursday Evening

Steaming crab is a talent that young Andrew seems to have mastered although his ability to read maps or understand compass bearings is not so well honed as was demonstrated yesterday when he ended up in Kerrville by mistake!

After a day of thunderstorms and staring at computer screens I did not think I’d be able to get out on the bike tonight. However the evening weather proved conducive to cycling, even with quite a high SE wind.

Yard work is the order of the day

To exercise, perchance to work – ay, there’s the rub. (To paraphrase The Bard and, to be clear, without any suicidal intent). The yard is jungle territory so I forfeit my evening cycle ride (exercise) in favor of mowing the yard (work).
This should be just as beneficial health wise but also has the added bonus of making Patty happy especially as I eradicated the vine she so despises because it damages the trees.

The best laid plans o’ mice an’ men …

Yesterday Andrew should have cut the grass in the front and back yards. He said he’d do it when he came back from Academy in Corpus Christi but he ended up going to The Bass Pro Shop in San Antonio. Then he took a wrong turn coming home and didn’t turn around until Kerrville – so no grass cutting at 3 a.m!

Tiger monitoring Andrew’s progress homeward.

Thursday two

Thursday two

Struggling here to keep up the alliterations

Maybe someone let the cat out of the bag (goodness’s knows we have enough cats!) over my admission yesterday that I know where my wife’s chocolate is stashed but tonight I was informed that we need to go out to eat because a good juicy hamburger is desired. I suspect that I no longer know the whereabouts of the chocolate stash but that’s a story for another day.

Turns out that “go out to eat” meant get takeout from Hu-Dat. They seem to be offering a full menu again and so beef broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, and old fashioned hamburger were the order of the day.

It also meant that I could go out on my bike again tonight and, although not doing as many miles as usual, I did manage to go two over my weekly goal. (Hence the alliterative “two”)

Cycling blast from the past #03

Cycling blast from the past #03

August 2005 and the children find cycling fun.

Loaningdale House, Biggar, U.K.

When Andrew was born we moved out of Loaningdale and occupied our own little bungalow in the town of Biggar. Emily and I would quite often cycle up the hill on a Saturday morning to have a cup of hot chocolate with the kitchen staff at Loaningdale. Patty must have driven up with Andrew to join us on this fine sunny day.
